Industry and Project Awards

  • November 2010: The American Society of Sanitary Engineering, ASSE, recently awarded Steven Scandaliato, CFPS SET the Wylie W. Mitchell Award for the most outstanding presentation at their Edward J. Zimmer Technical Seminar held in Las Vegas, NV. Mr. Scandaliato’s presentation on Residential Sprinklers provided pertinent information regarding the codes and standards involved with residential sprinkler systems which generated a spirited discussion about those who are pursuing this market of the fire protection industry.
  • October 2010: Scandaliato awarded APEX Award for Publishing Excellence for Feature Series Writing on Residential Sprinklers published by the American Society of Plumbing Engineers, September – November 2009.
  • July 2011: Chevron USA has awarded SDG, LLC. of Tucson, Arizona the East Tank Farm Upgrade project located at the Port Everglades Terminal in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. This project includes the development of the RFP package and contract administration for the fire protection upgrade to five of the existing fifteen fuel storage tanks. The scope involves demolition along with revisions to existing fire protection foam chamber systems. SDG will be the prime consultant for the project. Projected completion is January 2012.
  • September 2011: SDG, LLC. awarded Kirtland Air Force Base Armament/Fuel Cell/Corrosion Control project with K.L. House Construction located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This multi-building design/build project includes an addition to an existing Corrosion Control Facility and construction of a new Armament and Fuel Cell Hanger buildings. Along with providing fire protection specialist services, SDG, in collaboration with local fire protection contractor Kaufman Fire Protection, will produce complete fire suppression system design documents and specifications. Systems included in these design documents include high expansion foam and automatic wet-pipe fire sprinkler systems. Anticipated completion for design is April 2012.
  • October 2011: SDG, LLC. has been awarded the training and seminar portion of the due diligence contract with Petro Bras, the Brazilian Oil and Gas conglomerate, executed by Orcus Fire Protection, LLC. in Houston, Texas. Located at the newly constructed training center in Curitiba, Brazil, SDG will provide training and recommendations regarding Corporate Structure and Project Programming for FEED activities within their HSC and Process engineering groups. Focus on Safety Team functions and integration with other project development teams guided the presentations. Completion of these seminars is scheduled for November 2011.
  • November 2011: SDG, LLC of Tucson, Arizona has been awarded a long term contract for engineering and design services for Total of Paris, France; Joslyn Mine Project a $11B mine and extraction plant in the oil/sands of Alberta, Canada. Teamed with Orcus Fire Protection, LLC. and Atkins Global, both of Houston, Texas; this contract is the first of several multi-tiered FEED deliverables that will extend into 2013. Phase I deliverables include authoring design philosophies, basic engineering narratives, P&ID’s and specifications for all active and passive fire protection systems.
  • January 2012: Major fire and life safety commissioning project in Baku, Azerbaijan awarded to SDG, LLC. In cooperation with Orcus Fire Protection of Houston, Texas and H+H Fire in London, England, SDG will provide complete systems commissioning services for two 30 story high rise buildings recently completed in Baku. Multiple suppression systems including CO2, wet automatic fire sprinkler and standpipe systems integrated with complete alarm and detection systems will be included in this scope. Work is expected to commence the first part of March 2012.
  • February 2012: SDG, LLC of Tucson, Arizona is awarded second major oil/sands mining project in northern Alberta, Canada. Worley Parsons Canada has announced the life safety and fire protection portions of Suncor’s new mining operation at Fort Hills, Alberta will be provided for by Atkins Global, a Houston, Texas based engineering firm. In cooperation with Orcus Fire Protection, LLC, also of Houston, Texas, SDG will provide active and passive fire protection engineering and design for FEED deliverables in the first phase of development. Project deliverables include design philosophies, basic engineering narratives, P&ID’s and specifications for all active and passive fire protection systems. Estimated construction is over $10B with an anticipated completion of first phase deliverables in 2013.
  • February 2012: Chevron USA has awarded SDG, LLC. of Tucson, Arizona the Loading Rack Fire Suppression System Upgrade project located at the Port Everglades Terminal in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. This project includes the development of the RFP package and contract administration for the fire protection upgrade to two existing fuel loading racks. The scope involves demolition along with revisions to existing fire suppression and detection systems. New system design includes upgrades to new flame detection systems along with dry chemical and water-based foam systems. SDG will be the prime consultant for the project. Projected completion is July 2012.
